How does Terbin Spray work?

Terbin Spray works by stopping the production of a chemical known as ergosterol, which is responsible for forming the fungal cell membrane (the protective covering of the fungi). Thus, it kills the fungi and stops the spread of infections.

Terbin Spray is an antifungal medication that efficiently manages fungal infections in the body. It operates by disrupting the fungal cell membrane, inhibiting the production of specific chemicals (ergosterol) crucial for the cell's survival. By doing so, it hinders the multiplication of fungal cells, effectively halting the progression of the infection.

Pharmacology

Terbinafine is an antifungal Allylamine that works by inhibiting the formation of Ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This inhibition occurs by blocking the Squalene Epoxidase enzyme. This process results in an accumulation of high amounts of Squalene, which, rather than Ergosterol deficiency, enhances membrane permeability, ultimately causing fungal cell death. Depending on the medication concentration and the fungal species, Terbinafine hydrochloride can be fungicidal, although the clinical significance of in vitro data remains unclear. In both in vitro and clinical infections, Terbinafine has demonstrated effectiveness against most strains of Trichophyton Mentagrophyte and Trichophyton Rubrum.

Dosage & Administration of Terbin Spray

Terbin Spray is designed for external use exclusively. Before application, ensure the affected skin areas are clean and dry. Gently spray the medication onto the affected skin. It's essential to wash your hands both before and after applying the spray.

Avoid any contact between this medication and your face, eyes, ears, nose, or any mucous membranes.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and treatment duration based on factors such as your age, body weight, and the severity of the infection. Do not discontinue the use of Terbinafine without consulting your doctor.

Interaction

Terbinafine inhibits the CYP450 2D6 isozyme, which can affect the metabolism of certain drugs. Caution should be exercised when co-administering Terbinafine with medications primarily metabolized by the CYP450 2D6 isozyme, such as tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, beta-blockers, antiarrhythmics class 1C (e.g., flecainide and propafenone), and monoamine oxidase inhibitors Type B. Adjusting the dosage of 2D6-metabolized medications may be necessary.

Contraindications

Terbinafine tablets and cream should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to terbinafine.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Terbinafine cream has not shown adverse effects on fetal toxicity and fertility in animal studies. Clinical experience in pregnant women is limited, so the use of terbinafine during pregnancy should be considered only if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Terbinafine is excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should avoid terbinafine medication.

Precautions & Warnings

Terbinafine is not indicated for individuals with active or chronic liver disease. Pre-existing liver conditions should be assessed before prescribing Terbinafine. Hepatotoxicity can occur in patients with or without a history of liver disease. All patients should have their serum transaminase (ALT and AST) levels tested before using terbinafine tablets.

Storage Conditions

Terbinafine should be protected from light and stored in a cool, dry area below 30°C.
