Indications of Avaspray 120
Avaspray 120 Nasal Spray is approved for the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms in patients aged 2 years and older.
Fluticasone Furoate inhalation powder is approved for once-daily maintenance treatment of asthma in patients aged 5 years and older. This is not intended to treat acute bronchospasm.
Pharmacology
Avaspray 120 is a perfluorinated synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory activity. Fluticasone Furoate's precise mechanism of action on rhinitis symptoms is unknown. Corticosteroids have been shown to have a wide range of effects on multiple cell types (e.g., mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes) and mediators of inflammation (e.g., histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines). Corticosteroids' anti-inflammatory properties may contribute to their efficacy in rhinitis.
Dosage & Administration of Avaspray 120
Adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older should use two sprays in each nostril once daily. The recommended starting dosage for patients aged 2 to 12 years old is one spray in each nostril once daily. Patients who do not respond adequately to one spray in each nostril once daily may receive two sprays in each nostril once daily. Once symptoms are under control, a dose reduction to one spray in each nostril once daily is recommended.
Interaction of Avaspray 120
Fluticasone furoate exposure may be increased by strong cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) inhibitors. The use of ritonavir in combination is not advised. When combined with other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, use caution (such as ketoconazole).
Contraindications
Fluticasone furoate nasal spray is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Precautions & Warnings
Co-administration with ritonavir is not recommended due to the risk of systemic effects from increased Fluticasone Furoate exposure. Systemic corticosteroid effects such as hypercorticism and suppression of HPA function may occur when intranasal steroids are used at higher than recommended dosages or in susceptible individuals at recommended dosages. Fluticasone Furoate nasal spray, like all corticosteroid-containing medications, should be used with caution and only if necessary in patients with active or quiescent tuberculosis infections of the respiratory tract; chronic or untreated infections such as systemic fungal, bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections; or ocular herpes simplex.
