Indications of Kilbac 500mg 

Kilbac 500 is an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections in the body. It treats infections of the lungs (e.g., pneumonia), the ear, throat, nasal sinuses, the urinary tract, the skin, soft tissues, bones, and joints. It's also used to keep infections at bay during surgery. Under the supervision of a healthcare professional, Kilbac 500 is administered as a drip (intravenous infusion) or as an injection directly into a vein or muscle.

Pharmacology of Kilbac 500mg Tablet

Cefuroxime is a well-known and effective antibacterial agent with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of infections, including those that produce -lactamases. Cefuroxime is bacterial-lactamase resistant, making it effective against a wide range of ampicillin- and amoxicillin-resistant strains.

Kilbac 500mg Tablet Dosage & Administration

Tablet or Suspension-

Adults (13 years of age and older) and adolescents: 

• For 5–10 days, take 250 mg b.i.d. for pharyngitis/tonsillitis.
• 250 mg twice daily for 10 days if you have acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis.
• Acute bacterial bronchitis exacerbation: 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
• Acute bronchitis secondary bacterial infections: 250–500 mg twice daily for 5–10 days.
• Simple infections of the skin and skin structures: 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
• Simple urinary tract infections: Take 250 mg twice daily for 7–10 days.
• Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea: One dose of 1000 mg Community-acquired 
• Pneumonia: Daily doses of 250–500 mg for five to ten days
• 500 mg b.i.d. for 10–14 days for MDR Typhoid Fever
• 500 mg once daily for 20 days in cases of early Lyme disease

Children (3 months to 12 years old):

• 20 mg/kg/day b.i.d. for 5–10 days for pharyngitis/tonsillitis
• 30 mg/kg/day b.i.d. for 10 days if you have acute otitis media
• 30 mg/kg/day b.i.d. for 10 days if you have acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis.
• 10 days of 30 mg/kg/day b.i.d. for impetigo

Parenteral-

• Adult: 750 mg intravenously (IV) or orally (IM) three times daily. In cases of severe infections, the dose may be increased by an IV injection up to 1.5 gm three times per day. If more frequent dosing is required, it can be done up to four times per day with doses ranging from 3 to 6 grams.
• Children (over 3 months old): 30 to 100 mg/kg/day administered in three or four evenly spaced doses. For the majority of infections, a dose of 60 mg/kg/day is suitable.
• Neonate: 30–100 mg/kg/day administered in 2–3 evenly spaced doses.
• Surgical prophylaxis: 1.5 gm by IV injection at induction of anesthesia; up to 3 further doses of 750 mg may be given by IV/IM injection every 8 hours for high-risk procedures.
• Pneumonia: 500 mg twice daily (oral) for 7–10 days after 1.5 gm IV injection twice daily for 2–3 days.
• 750 mg twice daily (IM or IV injection) for 1-2 days, then 500 mg twice daily (oral) for 5–10 days, for acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. (The length of parenteral and oral therapy depends on the patient's clinical condition and the severity of the infection.)
• Adult: 1.5 gm as a single dose for gonorrhea (as 2 x 750mg injections intramuscularly with different sites, e.g. each buttock).

In Meningitis:

• Adult: three 3 gm IV injections per day.
• Children (over 3 months old): 200–240 mg/kg/day administered intravenously in three or four divided doses, reduced to 100 mg/kg/day after three days or upon clinical improvement.
• Neonate: initially administered as 100 mg/kg/day by IV injection, then reduced to 50 mg/kg/day when clinically necessary.

In bone and joint infections:

• Adult: four 1.5 gm IV injections per day.
• Children (over 3 months old): 150 mg/kg/day, evenly divided, administered every 8 hours (not to exceed the maximum adult dose).
• It is advised to use a recently reconstituted solution. But it keeps its effectiveness for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5 o C.

Contraindications

Cefuroxime is not recommended for people who have a Cephalosporin allergy.

Kilbac 500mg Tablet Side Effects

Cefuroxime has been linked to a small number of side effects, all of which have been minor and temporary. Rashes and stomach issues have been mentioned as side effects. Prolonged usage of amoxicillin, like other drugs, can lead to the proliferation of non-susceptible organisms like Candida.

Pregnancy & Lactation

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, cefuroxime falls under pregnancy category B. However, no appropriate and carefully monitored studies on expectant mothers have been carried out. Only use this medication during pregnancy if absolutely necessary, as studies on animal reproduction do not always predict human response. Cefuroxime has been discovered to be present in human milk. Cefuroxime should not be administered to a nursing mother.

Precautions & Warnings

People who are taking potent diuretics and have a history of colitis should use cefuroxime with caution. Although there have been reports of cross-reactions, patients with penicillin hypersensitivity can frequently be treated safely with cephalosporin medications. At the suggested dose levels, cefuroxime has demonstrated that this is not likely to be a problem.
