Amodis-IV 500 infusion is an antibiotic that aids your body's defenses against bacterial and parasitic infections. Metronidazole is used to treat the following conditions:
The prevention of anaerobic bacteria-related post-operative infections (particularly species of Bacteroides and anaerobic streptococci).
Anaerobe-caused septicemia, bacteremia, peritonitis, brain abscess, pelvic abscess, pelvic cellulitis, and post-operative wound infections.
When treating urogenital trichomoniasis.
Vaginosis is caused by bacteria (also known as non-specific vaginitis).
Amoebiasis in all its forms (intestinal, extra-intestinal disease, and symptomless cyst passers).
Giardiasis.
Gingivitis with acute ulceration.
Leg ulcers and pressure sores are caused by anaerobic bacteria.
Anaerobic organisms cause acute dental infections.
Pseudomembranous colitis caused by antibiotics
Pharmacology
Metronidazole is an antiprotozoal medication that belongs to the imidazole class of antibacterial drugs. Metronidazole's 5 nitro group is reduced by anaerobic bacteria metabolism. According to research, the reduced form of this drug interacts with DNA and produces metronidazole's bactericidal effect.
Dosage & Administration of Amodis-IV 500 infusion
Metronidazole intravenous infusion requires no dilution and should not be mixed with any other drugs prior to administration.
Contraindications
Patients who have a history of allergy to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives should not use metronidazole.
Side Effects
Metallic smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, and rash may occur during treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The US FDA classifies pregnancy with metronidazole as B. However, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies on pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies do not always predict human response, the drug should be used during pregnancy only when clearly necessary. Metronidazole has been shown to be excreted in human milk. Therefore, caution should be exercised when administering metronidazole to lactating women.
Warnings & Precautions
It is advised to perform hematological tests, particularly white blood cell counts, and monitor the patient for adverse reactions like peripheral or central neuropathy (such as feeling abnormal., Ataxia, dizziness, and seizures), if metronidazole must be administered for a longer period of time than is typically recommended.
Patients with hepatic encephalopathy should use metronidazole cautiously.
Patients should be made aware that metronidazole can cause their urine to turn black.
Storage Conditions
