Indications of Rocovas 10

Rocovas 10 is a member of the statin drug class. It lowers cholesterol and lowers the risk of developing heart disease. A fatty substance called cholesterol causes your blood vessels to narrow as it accumulates, which can result in a heart attack or stroke.

Pharmacology

The rate-limiting enzyme in the conversion of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl glutaryl coenzyme A to mevalonate, a precursor to cholesterol, is HMG-CoA reductase. HMG-CoA reductase is selectively and aggressively inhibited by rosuvastatin. Rosuvastatin affects lipid levels through two different mechanisms. It improves LDL absorption and degradation by increasing the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell surface, to start with. Second, by preventing the liver from producing VLDL, rosuvastatin reduces the total amount of VLDL and LDL particles.

Dosage & Administration of Rocovas 10

• 5 to 40 mg administered once daily. When a patient doesn't meet their LDL-C goal after taking 20 mg, only use 40 mg.
• HoFH: 20 mg/day as a starting dose.
• Patients with HeFH in children should take 5–10 mg per day if they are 8–10 years old, and 5–20 mg per day if they are 10–17 years old.
• Patients aged 7 to 17 who have HoFH should take 20 mg per day.
• You can take rosuvastatin at any time of day, with or without food.

Interaction of Rocovas 10

Try to control hyperlipidemia through a healthy diet, exercise, and weight loss in obese patients before beginning niacin treatment, and treat any other potential medical issues. When taking niacin, patients who have a history of jaundice, hepatobiliary disease, or peptic ulcer should be closely monitored. Blood sugar levels and liver function tests should be checked frequently to make sure the medication isn't having a negative impact on these organ systems. The clinical significance of increased dose-related glucose intolerance in diabetic patients is unknown. Patients who have diabetes or who may develop it need to be watched carefully. may need to modify your diet or your hypoglycemic medication.

Additionally, patients with unstable angina or acute MI should use niacin with caution, especially if they are also taking vasoactive medications like nitrates, calcium channel blockers, or adrenergic blockers. Niacin therapy should be administered with caution in people who are gouty because it can raise uric acid levels. A small but statistically significant dose-related decrease in platelet count and an increase in prothrombin time were both linked to niacin. Niacin should be used with caution when anticoagulants are also being taken; patients in this situation need to have their prothrombin time and platelet count closely monitored. Niacin causes levels of phosphorus to decrease in a small but statistically significant dose-dependent manner (an average reduction of 13% at 2000 mg).

Contraindications

Precautions & Warnings
