Lubilax 8mcg Capsule contains ‘Lubiprostone’ that works by retaining the water inside the intestines, which causes the intestine's easy movement. Pharmacology

Lubiprostone is a chloride-channel activator that works locally to increase intestinal secretion. It does this by increasing intestinal motility, which aids stool passage and relieves the symptoms of chronic idiopathic constipation.

Dosage & Administration of Lubilax 8mcg Capsule

Adult Dose: 

• For chronic idiopathic constipation, the recommended dose for adults is 24 micrograms (mcg) twice daily.
• For irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, the recommended dose is 8 mcg twice daily.
• For the treatment of opioid-induced constipation in patients with chronic noncancer pain, the recommended dose is 24 mcg twice daily.
• For patients with mild hepatic impairment, no dosage adjustment is needed.
• For patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B), the recommended dose for chronic idiopathic or opioid-induced constipation is 16 mcg every 12 hours. At the same time, no dosage adjustment is required for IBS-C.
• For patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C), the recommended dose for chronic idiopathic or opioid-induced constipation is 8 mcg every 12 hours. In comparison, the recommended dose for IBS-C is 8 mcg every 24 hours.

Child Dose

• Lubilax 8mcg Capsule is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged 18 years and below) as the safety and effectiveness of Lubilax 8mcg Capsule have not been studied in this group

Contraindications

Lubiprostone is not recommended for people who have a mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction, whether they know it or not.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Category C pregnancy. Whether lubiprostone is excreted in human milk is unknown. Human milk-fed infants should be monitored for diarrhea because lubiprostone increases fluid secretion in the intestine and intestinal motility. When Lubiprostone is given to a nursing woman, it should be done with caution.
