• Oxigel 5% Gel contains benzoyl peroxide, which has a keratolytic property, helping even out uneven skin.
• When applied to acne-prone areas, it releases oxygen, which kills bacteria, thus aiding in the treatment of acne.

✔️ Side Effects of Oxigel 5% Topical Gel

Common adverse effects may include skin irritation, such as erythema, burning, peeling, dryness, itching, stinging, and a sensation of skin tension at the application site. These effects are generally reversible when therapy is reduced or discontinued. Allergic contact dermatitis, characterized by facial edema, is also possible.

✔️ Pharmacology

Benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient, exhibits moderate keratolytic and antibacterial action by generating free-radical oxygen that oxidizes bacterial proteins. It is effective against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Oxigel 5% Topical Gel

• Adults (2.5-10% preparation): Apply 1-2 times daily after cleansing, with the option to increase to three times daily if necessary. It is advisable, to begin with lower-strength preparations.
• As a cleanser: Wash 1-2 times daily.
• Children (≥12 years): Same as the adult dose.

✔️ Interaction

There are no known interactions with other topically applied medicines used concurrently with Benzoyl Peroxide. However, pharmaceuticals with desquamative, irritating, or drying properties should not be used in combination with Benzoyl Peroxide gel.

✔️ Contraindications

Benzoyl Peroxide gel should not be used by individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to Benzoyl Peroxide.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Benzoyl Peroxide is classified as Pregnancy Category C. This means that animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus (teratogenic, embryocidal, or other), but no controlled studies in women exist, or studies in women and animals are unavailable. It should only be administered during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Discontinue if severe irritation develops. Restart with tolerable levels of treatment after the irritation has cleared.
• Do not use occlusive dressing.
• May cause dermatitis in allergic patients. Apply carefully near the eyes, mouth, neck, and other mucous membranes as well as other sensitive areas.
• Use caution during pregnancy, lactation, and in children.
