Indication of Xyril 25mg Tablet

Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride is used to treat:

Pharmacology

Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride is classified as an H1 receptor antagonist and an anxiolytic antihistamine of the piperazine class. While it does not directly depress the cortex of the brain, its mode of action is believed to involve a reduction in activity within specific subcortical regions of the central nervous system. Experimental studies have demonstrated its ability to induce skeletal muscle relaxation. In laboratory settings, it has shown bronchodilator, antihistaminic, and analgesic properties, which have been clinically verified. Additionally, it has been found to have antiemetic effects in tests involving apomorphine and varioloid administration. Hydroxyzine is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and its clinical effects are typically observed within 15 to 30 minutes after oral ingestion.

Dosage & Administration of Xyril 25mg Tablet

For symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension:

• Adults: Take 50-100 mg of Xyril 25mg Tablet four times daily.
• Children (>6 years): Take 50-100 mg (equivalent to 5-10 teaspoonfuls) of Xyril 25mg Tablet daily in divided doses.
• Children (<6 years): Take 50 mg (equivalent to 5 teaspoonfuls) of Xyril 25mg Tablet daily in divided doses.

For pruritus (itching) due to allergic conditions:

• Adults: Take 25 mg of Xyril 25mg Tablet three to four times daily.
• Children (6 years and above): Take 50-100 mg (equivalent to 5-10 teaspoonfuls) of Xyril 25mg Tablet daily in divided doses.
• Children (<6 years): Take 50 mg (equivalent to 5 teaspoonfuls) of Xyril 25mg Tablet daily in divided doses.

As a sedative (premedication and following general anesthesia):

• Adults: Take 50-100 mg of Xyril 25mg Tablet.
• Children: Take 0.6 mg/kg of body weight of Xyril 25mg Tablet.

Interaction

• Hydroxyzine should be used cautiously in pre-anesthetic adjunctive therapy as it may enhance the effects of Meperidine and barbiturates.
• It does not have an effect on atropine or other belladonna alkaloids. When used concurrently, hydroxyzine may add to or potentiate the central nervous system depressant effects of opiates, analgesics, barbiturates, sedatives, and anesthetics. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) can potentiate the antimuscarinic effects of hydroxyzine.
• Hydroxyzine is not known to interfere with the action of digitalis, so it can be used alongside it.
• However, it should not be taken simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
• It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including any MAOIs, to ensure the safe and effective use of hydroxyzine.

Pregnancy & Lactation
