Gonal-F 75IU injection contains Follitropin Alfa, a synthetic version of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). It is used in assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to treat infertility in both men and women. This hormone is vital in stimulating egg development in females and sperm production in males. Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after one year of regular, unprotected intercourse. In women, it promotes the development of multiple follicles, while in men, it boosts sperm production and helps with precise ovulation timing. Gonal-F 75IU is recognized for its efficacy and safety, offering hope to couples facing infertility by increasing pregnancy chances and reducing treatment duration.
However, individuals allergic to Gonal-F 75IU or any of its components should avoid its use. Although rare, allergic reactions can occur and require immediate medical attention. Women with ovarian cysts or tumors should not use this injection as it may worsen their condition. Additionally, it is not suitable for patients with uncontrolled hypothyroidism or adrenal dysfunction, as these conditions may interfere with the treatment's effectiveness. Those with reproductive tract abnormalities preventing successful egg or sperm transport may also not benefit from this medication. It is generally not recommended for children or the elderly.
Pregnancy
Gonal-F 75IU injection is not recommended during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs during treatment, consult a healthcare provider immediately.
Breastfeeding
It is not advised to use a Gonal-F 75IU injection while breastfeeding. Always seek advice from a healthcare provider before use.
Lungs
Though it does not directly affect the lungs, it’s important to consult your healthcare provider if you have any lung conditions before starting the treatment.
Liver
Patients with liver conditions should consult a healthcare provider before using Gonal-F 75IU.
Alcohol
Excessive alcohol intake may affect the liver and the metabolism of Gonal-F 75IU. It is recommended to limit alcohol consumption during treatment.
Driving
Gonal-F 75IU may cause side effects such as headaches, nausea, and dizziness. Consult your healthcare provider if you experience any of these symptoms.
Follitropin alfa, the active ingredient in Gonal-F, is a recombinant form of human follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In women, it stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles in the absence of primary ovarian failure. In men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, it helps stimulate spermatogenesis.
Like all medications, Gonal-F 75IU can cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them.
Serious Side Effects:
Common Side Effects:
Gonal-F 75IU Injection contains Follitropin alfa which is a type of Follicle follicle-stimulating hormone produced naturally by the body. It is used in women who are unable to ovulate. It works by stimulating the growth of follicles (which contain eggs) in the ovary. This helps in the release of a properly developed egg at the time of ovulation. It is also used in assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures such as in-vitro fertilization (IVF), which helps women to become pregnant. It may also be used in adult men who are infertile due to a lack of certain hormones and an inability to produce enough sperm cells.
Gonal-F 75IU, a recombinant form of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), works by binding to FSH receptors in ovarian granulosa cells in women or Sertoli cells in men. In females, this promotes the growth and development of ovarian follicles, leading to egg maturation, while in males, it enhances sperm production and maturation. By replicating the action of natural FSH, it aids in regulating reproductive processes and is a valuable tool in infertility treatments.
Female Infertility: The dosage should be individualized. The initial recommended dose is 75 IU/day, which can be increased by 37.5 IU after 14 days if necessary. Further increases can be made every 7 days, with a maximum dose of 300 IU/day. If the response is adequate, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) should be administered 1 day after the last Gonal-F dose.
Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART): Start with 150-225 IU/day for at least 4 days, starting on day 2 or 3 of the menstrual cycle. Adjust the dose based on ovarian response, with a maximum of 450 IU/day. Once adequate follicular development is achieved, administer hCG to induce final follicular maturation. hCG should be withheld if the ovaries are abnormally enlarged.
Spermatogenesis Induction: Administer 150 IU three times per week, along with continued chorionic gonadotropin, for at least 4 months. The maximum dose is 300 IU three times per week.
(Always take this medication as per the advice of a registered physician.)
Gonal-F 75IU injection is administered subcutaneously. Patients are given clear instructions on how to properly and safely administer the injection during their treatment period.
Patients should inform their doctor about any medications they are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, supplements, and herbal products. Some medicines may interact with Gonal-F 75IU injection, reducing its effectiveness or causing unwanted side effects.
Pregnancy Category X: Gonal-F is contraindicated during pregnancy as it can cause fetal abnormalities. Studies show clear evidence of fetal risk in humans, and the risks outweigh any potential benefits.
Gonal-F is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women
