Description:

Xelpid 40 Tablet contains Atorvastatin, which is a lipid-lowering drug. It is used to reduce elevated high blood cholesterol levels (hyperlipidemia) in patients when diet and lifestyle changes do not result in an adequate response. By reducing blood cholesterol levels, Atchol 20mg Tablet can also prevent the risk of heart attack, stroke, angina, or related health problems.

Atorvastatin can be used in children aged 10 years or above who have hyperlipidemia.

Before taking Atorvastatin, inform your doctor if you have any lung, liver, kidney, or heart problems. Also, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, thyroid problems, or a family history of muscle disorders. Avoid consuming alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking Atchol 20mg Tablet as it may make the medication less effective.

You should not take Atchol 20mg Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting your doctor.

Atorvastatin may increase your blood sugar levels, especially in patients who are diabetic. Your doctor will closely monitor your blood sugar levels while undergoing therapy with Atchol 20mg Tablet as a precaution. Atorvastatin may affect the way your liver works. Your doctor will closely monitor your liver function while you are taking Atchol 20mg Tablet.

How does Xelpid 40 work?

Xelpid 40 is a lipid-lowering medication (statin). It works by blocking an enzyme (HMG-CoA-reductase) required in the body to make cholesterol. It lowers "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while raising the level of "good" cholesterol (HDL).

Side Effects of Xelpid 40

Common side effects include constipation, flatulence, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, cough, muscle pain, difficulty breathing, runny nose, headache, back pain, rash, asthenia, and arthralgia.

Quick Suggestions:
  • Take with or without food; may cause gastrointestinal upset.
  • Monitor for signs of muscle weakness or pain; liver function tests should be performed regularly.
  • Inform your doctor of any kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes before starting treatment.
  • If you miss a dose of Xelpid 40, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses within 12 hours.
  • Do not take Xelpid 40 if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Indications:
  1. Heterozygous and Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolaemia: To reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.
  2. Mixed Dyslipidemia (Fredrickson Type Ia and Ib): To reduce elevated cholesterol and triglycerides.
  3. Hypertriglyceridaemia (Fredrickson Type IV): For the treatment of elevated serum triglyceride levels.
  4. Dysbetalipoproteinaemia (Fredrickson Type III).
  5. Coronary Artery Disease: To reduce cardiac ischemic events in patients with asymptomatic or mild to moderate symptomatic coronary artery disease with elevated LDL cholesterol levels.
  6. Hypercholesterolemia Associated with Diabetes Mellitus or Renal Transplantation.
Pharmacology

Atorvastatin, the active ingredient in Xelpid, inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis, thereby lowering plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels. Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with maximum plasma concentrations reached within 1 to 2 hours. Extensively bound to plasma proteins, primarily metabolized by the liver. Metabolized to active metabolites by cytochrome P450 3A4. Eliminated primarily in bile, with a plasma elimination half-life of approximately 14 hours.

Dosage & Administration of Xelpid 40
  • Primary Hypercholesterolaemia and Combined Hyperlipidaemia: Initially 10 mg once daily, up to a maximum of 80 mg once daily.
  • Familial Hypercholesterolaemia: Initially 10 mg daily, up to a maximum of 80 mg once daily.
  • Prevention of Cardiovascular Events: Initially 10 mg once daily, adjusted according to response.
  • Pediatric Dosing: Starting dose of 10 mg/day, up to a maximum of 20 mg/day for patients aged 10-17 years.

Renal Dose

  • Atorvastatin competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate. This results in the induction of the LDL receptors and stimulation of LDL catabolism, leading to lowered LDL-cholesterol levels.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush, or break it. Xelpid 40 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
