How does Neugalin 75mg Capsule work?

• Pregabalin acts by reducing the action of certain chemical substances in the brain. Thus, it impairs the transmission of pain signals from the brain and relieves pain.

Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic pain, also known as nerve pain, is characterized by chronic discomfort resulting from damage or irritation to nerves. Pharmacology

Pregabalin is a structural derivative of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It does not have a specific binding affinity for GABAA, GABAB, or benzodiazepine receptors. Instead, pregabalin exhibits high affinity to the alpha-2-delta subunit, which is an auxiliary subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels, particularly in tissues of the central nervous system.

The oral bioavailability of pregabalin is equal to or greater than 90%, and it is not significantly affected by dosage. The elimination of pregabalin from the systemic circulation primarily occurs through renal excretion in the form of an unchanged drug. The elimination half-life of pregabalin is approximately 6.3 hours in individuals with normal renal function.

Dosage & Administration of Neugalin 75mg Capsule

Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy:

• Start with 50 mg three times a day (150 mg/day).
• May be increased to 100 mg three times a day (300 mg/day) within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability.

Post-herpetic neuralgia:

• Start with 75 mg two times a day, or 50 mg three times a day (150 mg/day).
• May be increased to 150 mg two times a day, or 100 mg three times a day (300 mg/day) within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability.

Adjunctive therapy for adult patients with partial onset seizures:

• Start with a total daily dose no greater than 150 mg/day (75 mg two times a day, or 50 mg three times a day).
• May be increased based on individual patient response and tolerability, up to a maximum dose of 600 mg/day.

Management of Fibromyalgia:

• Start with 75 mg two times a day (150 mg/day).
• May be increased to 150 mg two times a day (300 mg/day) within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability.
• The recommended dose range is 300 to 450 mg/day.

Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury:

• Start with 75 mg two times a day (150 mg/day).
• May be increased to 150 mg two times a day (300 mg/day) within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability.
• The recommended dose range is 150 to 600 mg/day.

Pregabalin capsules can be taken without regard to meals. Adjustments should be made based on individual patient response and tolerability.

Interaction

Drug-Drug Interaction: PREGABALIN may interact with painkillers (morphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, tramadol, codeine) and medicines for treating anxiety (lorazepam, diazepam, clonazepam).

Drug-Food Interaction: PREGABALIN may interact with alcohol. Therefore, avoid consuming alcohol while taking PREGABALIN as it may increase side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or difficulty concentrating.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Inform your doctor if you have suicidal ideation or behavior, drug addiction, chronic pulmonary insufficiency, heart problems, or liver/kidney impairment before taking Neugalin 75mg Capsule.

Pregabalin has a pregnancy category of C. As a result, it should only be taken if the potential benefits outweigh the dangers to the fetus.

Pregabalin, like other medicines, can pass into breast milk; thus, it should only be used in nursing mothers if the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.

Precautions & Warnings

Do not take Neugalin 75mg Capsule if you are known to be allergic to any of its contents. Inform your doctor if you have symptoms of suicidal ideation or behavior, drug addiction, chronic lung diseases, muscle weakness, heart problems, or liver/kidney impairment. Caution is required before giving Neugalin 75mg Capsule to pregnant or breastfeeding women. The safety and effectiveness of Neugalin 75mg Capsule in children under 18 years of age have not been established, so PREGABALIN should not be given to them. Taking Neugalin 75mg Capsule with opioid analgesics or painkillers like oxycodone can cause respiratory failure, and coma, and even lead to death, so avoid its intake together. If you are taking any sleeping pills or tranquilizers, tell your doctor about this as Neugalin 75mg Capsule interacts with these drugs and causes sleepiness, drowsiness, and dizziness, affecting your daily activity. Immediately contact a doctor if you have swelling of your face, mouth, tongue, lips, gums, neck, or throat (angioedema).
