Vitamin D3 is used in the treatment of Vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis.

Pharmacology

• Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) facilitates the absorption and reabsorption of calcium and phosphorous
• Essential for normal bone growth and maintenance of bone density
• Reduces the severity of bacterial infections, improves lung function
• Prevents the risk of cancer (breast, colorectal)
• Helps maintain adequate insulin levels in type 2 diabetes patients

Dosage & Administration of D-Balance 20000IU Capsule

• Capsule (Adults):
  • Treatment of Vitamin D3 deficiency: 40000 IU once weekly for 7 weeks
  • Maintenance therapy: 1400-2000 IU/day
  • Prevention of Vitamin D3 deficiency: 20000 IU every 4 weeks
  • Addition to specific therapy for osteoporosis: 20000 IU once a month
• Capsule (Children 12-18 years):
  • Treatment of Vitamin D3 deficiency: 20000 IU once every 2 weeks for 6 weeks
  • Prevention of Vitamin D3 deficiency: 20000 IU every 6 weeks

May be taken with or without food.

Interaction

• Increased risk of hypercalcemia with thiazide diuretics, calcium, or phosphate.
• Antiepileptics may increase vitamin D requirements.
• Rifampicin & isoniazid may reduce efficacy.
• Corticosteroids may counteract the effect.
• Reduced absorption with cholestyramine, colestipol, mineral oil, orlistat.
• Interaction with ketoconazole.

Contraindications

• Cholecalciferol is contraindicated in all diseases associated with hypercalcemia.
• Known hypersensitivity to Colecalciferol or its class of medicines and any constituent excipients.
• Contraindicated if there is evidence of vitamin D toxicity.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safe use during pregnancy up to 4000 IU
• The recommended daily intake for pregnant women is 400 IU; higher doses may be required for deficiency
• Excreted in breast milk; overdose in infants not observed, but dosage should be considered in nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in individuals with high blood calcium or phosphorus levels, heart problems, and kidney disease.
