Side Effects of Ocarnix 330mg Tablet

Generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects include transient nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.

Quick Suggestions:

• Take during or immediately after the meals and consume slowly.
• Take at evenly spaced times throughout the day (every 3 or 4 hours).
• Monitor your blood glucose levels regularly during levocarnitine treatment.
• Do not take this drug if you are allergic to levocarnitine or any of its ingredients.
• Maintain a healthy weight with proper diet and exercise.
• Increase the intake of calcium and magnesium-rich foods.
• Include more vegetables, fruits, low-fat dairy, whole grains, foods, and nuts products in your diet.
• Make a habit of regular exercising for at least 1-2 hours a day, or at least one should walk for about half an hour for good health.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Indication

Levocarnitine, also known as L-carnitine, is a naturally occurring substance that plays a crucial role in energy metabolism, particularly in the transport of fatty acids into cellular mitochondria for energy production. 

Pharmacology

Levocarnitine facilitates the entry of long-chain fatty acids into cellular mitochondria, where they undergo oxidation to produce energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). This process is vital for energy production, especially in tissues like skeletal and cardiac muscles.

Dosage & Administration of Ocarnix 330mg Tablet

Tablet:

• Adults: 990 mg, two or three times a day.
• Infants and children: 50-100 mg/kg/day in divided doses, not exceeding 3 g/day.

Monitoring should include periodic blood chemistries, vital signs, plasma carnitine concentrations, and overall clinical condition.

Interaction

Reports suggest an increase in INR with warfarin use. Monitoring INR levels is recommended when initiating levocarnitine treatment.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any components is a contraindication. There is no known disease or syndrome where levocarnitine administration is contraindicated.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Categorized as Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly indicated and under medical supervision. Not advised for nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Safety in patients with renal insufficiency is not well-evaluated. Chronic high doses in severe renal function impairment may lead to the accumulation of potentially toxic metabolites.
