Indications
A combination drug called Oxecone MS is used to treat bloating, stomach ulcers, and acid reflux. It facilitates simple gastric emptying and neutralizes excess stomach acid. This medication is prescribed to treat dyspepsia, heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, gastroesophageal reflux, and hiatal hernia. It is also used to treat hyperacidity caused by peptic ulcers, gastritis, and esophagitis. If required, children can be administered Magaldrate. Also used to treat gas, stomach distension, and windy colic.
Pharmacology
This is a magaldrate and simethicone blend. Magaldrate (magnesium aluminum compound, also known as Hydroxymagnesium Aluminate), promptly neutralizes stomach acid without increasing the pH over 5-6. It also reduces pepsin activity in gastric secretion. Furthermore, another component of Marlox Plus, simethicone, allows the gas bubble to agglomerate and provide relief from flatulence.
Dosage & Administration
Tablet: 1-4 chewable tablets, 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by the physician.
Suspension: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml) of suspension, 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by the physician.
Interaction
It should not be used in patients who are taking Tetracycline in any form. A variety of medications, including propranolol, isoniazid, prednisolone, and naproxen, may have decreased bioavailability or delayed absorption as a result of the drug.
Contraindications
Magaldrate is not recommended for people who have a history of hypersensitivity to magnesium or aluminum. It is also not recommended for people with poor renal function.
Side Effects
Side effects on the gastrointestinal tract are rare. Diarrhea, constipation, or regurgitation may occur if an excessive quantity is eaten.
Pregnancy & Lactation
If warranted, magaldrate may be used during pregnancy; however, excessive doses should be avoided. Magaldrate has been observed to transfer into breast milk but has not been linked to any problems in nursing newborns.
Precautions & Warnings
People with impaired renal function, hypophosphatemia, or who are frail should exercise caution.
Storage Conditions
Keep below 30°C and away from light and moisture. Keep out of children's reach.
