Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) preparations have a long history of use in European medicine, spanning over 2,000 years, particularly in the treatment of liver and biliary tract diseases. According to the US National Formulary, Milk thistle preparations must contain no less than 20% Silymarin, calculated as silybin, silydianin, and silychristin. Treatment with Milk thistle has shown to be safe and well tolerated by individuals.
Bliss (Milk thistle) is indicated for the treatment and prevention of:
Concomitant use of Bliss with butyrophenones or phenothiazines may reduce lipid peroxidation.
Bliss is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to silymarin.
Bliss is generally well tolerated in the recommended dose, although occasionally a mild laxative effect may be observed.
There is limited experience with the use of Silymarin 70 mg or 140 mg during pregnancy and lactation. Therefore, caution is advised, and use should be as per the physician's advice.
