How does Ultibro Breezhaler work?

Ultibro Breezhaler contains Indacaterol and Glycopyrrolate, which relax airway muscles (Indacaterol) and decrease airway secretions (Glycopyrrolate), making breathing easier for COPD patients.

Side effects may include indigestion, high blood pressure, inflammation of the throat and nasal passages, chest pain, fever, urinary retention, sore throat, cough, headache, dizziness, allergic reactions, increased blood glucose level, inflammation of the nose, sinus inflammation, and urinary tract infection.

Indication

Ultibro Breezhaler is prescribed for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), relaxing airway muscles to ease breathing. It should be used regularly, even if symptoms improve, to maintain effectiveness. This medication should not be used for sudden shortness of breath.

Pharmacology

Indacaterol Maleate is a specific β2-adrenergic agonist with the chemical name (R)-5-[2-(5,6-Diethylindan-2-ylamino)-1-hydroxyethyl]-8 hydroxy-1H-quinolin-2-one maleate. Glycopyrronium is a long-acting, selective antimuscarinic agent that inhibits M3 receptors, leading to smooth muscle relaxation in the airways.

Dosage & Administration of Ultibro Breezhaler

Dosage: Adults with COPD should inhale one capsule with the inhaler once daily. Adjustments may be needed for hepatic or renal impairment.

For inhalation use only; the capsules should not be swallowed.

Interaction

Indacaterol may interact with adrenergic drugs, xanthine derivatives, steroids, diuretics, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, QTc prolonging drugs, beta-blockers, inhibitors of cytochrome P450 3A4, and P-gp efflux transporter.

Contraindications

Ultibro Breezhaler is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to its components, those with asthma not treated with a long-term control medication, and children under 18 years old.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Limited data are available on the use of indacaterol and glycopyrronium combination in pregnant women. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects, but caution is advised. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the benefits outweigh the risks.

Precautions & Warnings

Ultibro Breezhaler should be used cautiously in patients with certain medical conditions, including narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, cardiovascular disorders, convulsive disorders, severe renal impairment, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, and during pregnancy and lactation.
