Uses of Orogel Dental Gel

Benzocaine is used for local anesthesia.

How does Orogel Dental Gel work?

Benzocaine works by blocking pain signals from the peripheral nerves to the brain which decreases the sensation of pain.

Side Effects of Orogel Dental Gel

Less common, may include allergies, and mouth or throat swelling.

Quick Tips:

• Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
• Benzocaine should be applied over the affected area with a clean fingertip, three to four times a day or as directed by your doctor.
• Once you apply the medication, wait for at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything.
• Avoid getting it in the eyes or nose. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
• Inform your doctor if the infection has not cleared up after four weeks of treatment.

Indication of Orogel Dental Gel

• To produce anesthesia for all mucous membranes that are accessible, except for the eyes
• For short-term local relief of pain associated with oropharyngeal and dental problems

Pharmacology

Benzocaine, an ester local anesthetic, blocks nerve impulses by reducing neuronal membrane permeability to sodium ions, leading to depolarization inhibition and conduction blockade.

Dosage & Administration of Orogel Dental Gel

• Apply to the affected area up to 4 times daily or as directed by a doctor/dentist.
• Supervise children under 12 years.
• Consult a doctor/dentist before use in children under 2 years.
• Fix the applicator on the tube's nozzle for easy application.
• After application, fix the supplied cap on top of the applicator.

Overdose Effects:

• Symptoms: Methemoglobinemia, cyanotic skin discoloration, unusual breathing.
• Management: Symptomatic and supportive treatment; administer IV methylene blue 1%.

Interaction

• May antagonize the therapeutic effect of sulfonamides.
• Anticholinesterases may inhibit Orogel metabolism.

Contraindications

Epiglottitis (oral spray), methemoglobinemia.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk.

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, heart disease, and smokers.
• Use with caution in children, during pregnancy, and lactation.

Store between 15-30°C.
