Description:

Menogon 75 IU Injection is categorized as a sex hormone medication and is employed to treat various fertility-related issues. In women, it helps those who have difficulties ovulating (producing eggs) by inducing ovulation. In men, it enhances male hormone production, aiding conditions like low sperm count and delayed puberty.

The injection contains 'Menotrophin,' a sex hormone. Your doctor administers the injection, and the duration of usage depends on your medical needs. Common side effects include injection site pain, fatigue, headache, irritation, depression, and restlessness, most of which resolve over time.

It's crucial to avoid Menogon 75 IU Injection if you're allergic to it or its components, or if you have certain conditions like tumors. Inform your doctor if you have uterine or breast tumors, testes cancer, or if you're pregnant or nursing. The injection is not intended for children and might affect your ability to drive, so avoid driving while using it.

Dosage & Administration of Menogon 75 IU Injection

Here are the recommended doses and guidelines for Menotropin (Follicle Stimulation) in various contexts:

Assisted Reproduction Technologies (ART):

  • Initial dose: 225 International Units daily, administered subcutaneously (SC) or intramuscularly (IM).
  • Menotropin can be combined with urofollitropin; the combined dose is not to exceed 225 International Units (e.g., 150 International Units menotropin and 75 International Units of urofollitropin).
  • Maximum dose: 450 International Units daily.
  • Duration: 7 to 20 days.
  • Continue until adequate follicular development; administer human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for final follicular maturation.
  • Withhold hCG if monitoring suggests an increased risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

Ovulation Induction:

  • Initial dose: 150 International Units daily for the first 5 days.
  • Maximum dose: 450 International Units daily.
  • Duration: 7 to 12 days.
  • If the patient's response is suitable, administer hCG one day after the last menotropin dose.
  • If follicle development or ovulation is inadequate without pregnancy, treatment may be repeated.

Adjustments:

  • Dosing should be individualized for each patient.
  • Adjust dose based on the ovarian response, evaluated by follicular growth and estradiol levels (for assisted reproduction) or monitoring (serum estradiol and vaginal ultrasound) for ovulation induction.
  • Do not make additional dose adjustments more frequently than every 2 days or by more than 150 International Units at each adjustment.

Male Infertility due to Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism:

  • Prior hCG treatment stimulates spermatogenesis.
  • Start menotrophin at 75 or 150 IU 2-3 times weekly through SC or IM injection in combination with hCG.
  • Continue for a minimum of 3-4 months.

Female Infertility of Anovulatory Origin:

  • Initiate therapy within the first 7 days of the menstrual cycle in unresponsive cases (including polycystic ovarian disease).
  • Begin with 75-150 IU daily through SC or IM injection for at least 7 days.
  • Adjust doses based on individual response (monitored clinically and with ovarian ultrasound and serum estradiol measurement).
  • Adjust in increments of 37.5 IU every 7 days, up to a maximum of 225 IU daily.
  • If insufficient response after 3-4 weeks, restart treatment at a higher initial dose.
  • Administer hCG 1 day after the final menotrophin dose with optimal response.

Controlled Ovarian Hyperstimulation for Assisted Reproduction:

  • In GnRH antagonist protocol, initiate menotrophin on day 2 or 3 of the menstrual cycle.
  • In GnRH agonist protocol, start menotrophin about 2 weeks after agonist treatment begins.
  • Commence with 150-225 IU daily SC or IM injection for at least the initial 5 days.
  • Adjust doses based on response (clinically monitored with ultrasound and serum estradiol measurement).
  • Increase in up to 150 IU increments; max: 450 IU daily.
  • Treatment duration: maximum 20 days.
  • Administer hCG when an appropriate number of follicles are ready for oocyte retrieval.

Reconstitution:

  • Dissolve vial content in provided diluent (0.9% NaCl injection).
  • Swirl gently to dissolve; avoid shaking.

Administration:

  • Menogon 75 IU Injection is administered by a doctor or nurse
  • Your doctor will decide on your starting dose
  • This dose may be adjusted during your treatment period and it varies according to your health condition and body weight
