How does Fluxit work?

Flupenthixol + Melitracen is a combination of two medicines: Flupenthixol and Melitracen. Flupenthixol is a typical antipsychotic. It works by blocking the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that affects thoughts and mood. Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that help regulate mood and treat depression.

Indication of Fluxit

Fluxit Tablet is a combination medicine that helps in maintaining the balance of certain chemicals in the brain that affect mood and behavior. 

Pharmacology

Fluxit 0.5 mg+10 mg reaches maximum serum concentration about 4 hours after oral administration. Flupentixol acts as a neuroleptic drug by blocking dopamine D1 and D2 receptors. Melitracen, a tricyclic antidepressant, blocks neuronal re-uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system, minimizing depression symptoms.

Dosage & Administration of Fluxit

• Adults: Usually 2 tablets daily in the morning and afternoon. The morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets in severe cases. Elderly patients: 1 tablet in the morning.
• Maintenance dose: Usually 1 tablet in the morning or as directed by the physician.

Overdosage may cause Symptomatic and supportive treatment. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be administered. Diazepam for convulsions and biperiden for extrapyramidal symptoms.

Interaction

This may enhance response to alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants. Simultaneous administration of MAO inhibitors may cause hypertensive crises. Neuroleptics and thymoleptics reduce the antihypertensive effect of guanethidine and similar-acting compounds.

Contraindications

Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction, defects in bundle-branch conduction, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, acute alcohol, barbiturate, and opiate intoxications. Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients or those who have received an MAO inhibitor within two weeks.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Safety is not established in pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

Withdraw tranquilizers with sedative effect gradually before starting treatment.
