How does Entacyd Plus Tablet work?

Entacyd Plus Tablet is a combination of Aluminium hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, and Simethicone. Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide reduce the amount of stomach acid and act as an antacid. This, in turn, provides relief from symptoms such as heartburn, sour stomach, etc. Simethicone reduces excessive gas in the stomach and relieves symptoms such as stomach discomfort caused by gas, abdominal pain, and flatulence. 

Side Effects of Entacyd Plus Tablet

Common side effects of Aluminum Hydroxide/Magnesium Hydroxide/Simethicone include:

• black/tarry stools,
• mental/mood changes (e.g., confusion, deep sleep),
• pain with urination,
• stomach/abdominal pain, and
• vomit that looks like coffee grounds.

Serious side effects of Aluminum Hydroxide/Magnesium Hydroxide/Simethicone include:

• nausea,
• vomiting,
• rebound hyperacidity,
• aluminum-intoxication,
• low blood phosphates (hypophosphatemia),
• chalky taste,
• constipation (this could lead to hemorrhoids or bowel obstruction),
• fecal impaction,

• softening of the bones.

Indication

Entacyd Plus (Aluminium Hydroxide 400mg + Magnesium Hydroxide 400mg + Simethicone 30mg) is indicated for symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic oesophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, sour stomach or hiatus hernia. It is effective in the prevention of stress ulceration and GI bleeding. It acts as an antiflatulent to alleviate the symptoms of gas including post-operative gas pain. Entacyd Plus rapidly relieves acid pain, disperses gastric foam, and facilitates the eructation of gas and air.

Pharmacology

Entacyd Plus is a combination medication that contains antiflatulent and non-systemic acid-neutralizing chemicals. It provides reliable and long-lasting relief by neutralizing gastric acid and relieving ulcers caused by the excessive production of stomach acid.

The active ingredients in Entacyd Plus, Aluminium Hydroxide, and Magnesium Hydroxide, work by neutralizing the gastric acid released by the parietal cells of the stomach. This helps in relieving ulcers and reducing acidity.

Simethicone, another component of Entacyd Plus, acts as an antifoaming agent. It reduces the surface tension of liquids in the gastrointestinal tract, causing foam bubbles to collapse. By doing so, it helps to eliminate excess gas, air, or foam from the digestive system, relieving symptoms such as flatulence, stomach distension, and dyspepsia.

Simethicone is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and it does not interfere with gastric secretion or nutritional absorption. After oral dosing, it is eliminated from the body unchanged through the feces.

Entacyd Plus is primarily used to treat flatulence, meteorism (excessive gas in the digestive tract), stomach distension, and dyspepsia. It is also used prior to radiography procedures to remove gas, air, or foam from the gastrointestinal tract.

Dosage & Administration of Entacyd Plus Tablet

Interaction

• Glipizide: Entacyd Plus Tablet may decrease the absorption of glipizide, potentially reducing its effectiveness. Contraindications

Patients with renal failure or hypophosphatemia, as well as those who are extremely debilitated, should not take this. In cases of alkalosis and hypermagnesaemia, if abdominal distention is caused by partial or complete intestinal blockage, it is also contraindicated.
