• Ambroxol helps in thinning and removal of mucus (a slimy and sticky substance) from the airways, thereby treating various respiratory conditions.
• Measure the syrup with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
• Do not use Ambroxol for more than 14 days, without your doctor’s advice.
• Inform your doctor if you have suffered or are currently suffering from any stomach, liver, or kidney problems.

Indication of Ambrox 75 SR Capsule

Ambroxol is a mucolytic medication. It treats-

• Bronchiectasis
• Chronic pneumonia.
• Productive cough
• Inflammatory diseases of the Rhinopharyngeal tract (e.g. Laryngitis, Pharyngitis, Sinusitis, and Rhinitis) associated with viscid mucus
• Asthmatic bronchitis, Bronchial asthma with the difficult departure of mucus
• Acute and chronic diseases of respiratory tracts associated with viscid mucus including acute and chronic bronchitis

Pharmacology

Ambrox 75 SR Capsule is a metabolite of Bromhexine and has microkinetic and pectolytic properties. It improves mucus transport and liquefies secretions. Ambroxol stimulates the glands of the bronchial mucous membrane, increasing mucus secretion and reducing its viscosity. This leads to easier expectoration of mucus and improved breathing. It also stimulates the production of surfactant phospholipids by alveolar cells and has anti-inflammatory properties. In patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), it improves airway patency. Additionally, Ambroxol exhibits antioxidant activity. The medication is well-tolerated, allowing for long-term use.

Dosage & Administration of Ambrox 75 SR Capsule

Sustained Release capsules of Ambroxol are recommended to be taken as follows:

• Adults and children over 12 years old should take 1 capsule once daily.

Ambroxol may be prescribed to patients with diabetes mellitus.

Interaction

• Ambrox 75 SR Capsule does not have interactions with cardioactive glycosides, corticosteroids, bronchodilators, diuretics, and antibiotics commonly used for bronchopulmonary conditions.
• However, it should not be taken at the same time as antitussives like Codeine.
• This is because Ambroxol helps to liquefy mucus, and taking antitussives might prevent the expectoration of the liquefied mucus.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or Bromhexine.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Studies on teratogenicity and fetal toxicity have shown that Ambrox 75 SR Capsule does not have harmful effects on the fetus. However, it is still not recommended for use during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Safety during lactation has not been established, so it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before using this medication while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings
