Additionally, it forms complexes with calcium ions, fat-soluble hormones, and unconjugated bilirubin.

Indication

Albutein 25% addresses blood volume loss by replacing fluids lost due to trauma, bleeding, surgery, or dialysis. This aids in treating low blood albumin levels. Administered under medical supervision, it's contraindicated if allergic or with severe heart disease. Regular blood pressure checks and tests may be advised during usage. Common side effects comprise flushing, nausea, and fever. For pregnant/breastfeeding individuals or those with kidney diseases, dose adjustment might be needed. Safe for use in patients with liver diseases.

Pharmacology

Human albumin solutions raise intravascular oncotic pressure, prompting the shift of fluids from interstitial to intravascular spaces. Different concentrations are available. 5% solutions are often used for hypovolemic patients, while more concentrated 25% solutions are suitable for cases requiring limited fluid and sodium intake, like hypoproteinaemia, cerebral edema, or pediatric patients.

Dosage & Administration of

Adult Dose:

• Initially, 25 g of albumin, was adjusted based on patient's response.
• Usual infusion rates: 1-2 ml/minute.

Child Dose:

• Up to 1 g/kg, adjusted based on patient response.
• Usual infusion rates: 1-2 ml/minute.
• Maximum limits: Not to exceed 250 g/48 hr or 6 g/kg/day.

Administration: Albutein 25% is administered by a doctor or nurse into the vein. Your doctor determines the appropriate dose and duration based on your age, body weight, and medical condition.

Interaction

Drug Interactions:

• Combining multiple medicines or mixing them with specific foods/beverages can lead to drug interactions.
• Not to be prescribed alongside ACE inhibitors.

Disease Interactions:

• Albutein 25% should not be used in patients with:
  • Hypersensitivity to albumin
  • Anaemia
  • Heart conditions
  • Hypernatremia (high sodium levels)
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Viral infections

Contraindications

Do not use in individuals who are hypersensitive to albumin preparations, any ingredient in the formulation, or components of the container.

• Substitution of Blood Constituents: Ensure adequate replacement of other blood components. Regularly monitor coagulation status and hematocrit.
• Hypotension Monitoring: Be vigilant for hypotension occurrences. Monitor hemodynamic performance.
• Dilution Instructions: Avoid diluting the solution with sterile water for injection.
• Infectious Agents: This product is derived from human plasma and might contain infectious agents, including viruses and potentially the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease agent.

Storage Conditions

Storage Albutein 25%, in a flexible container, is stable for two years (24 months) provided the storage temperature does not exceed 30 °C.  Protect from freezing. Keep the overwrap intact. Keep out of the reach of children.
