Mexclav is a broad-spectrum antibiotic indicated for bacterial infections caused by sensitive organisms, including:
- Pharyngitis / Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Otitis Media due to S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, or M. catarrhalis
- Acute Maxillary Sinusitis caused by S. pneumoniae or H. influenzae
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (including pneumonia)
- Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis / Secondary Infections
- Skin and Skin Structure Infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or S. pyogenes
- Urinary Tract Infections due to E. coli or K. pneumoniae
- Bone and Joint Infections
- Uncomplicated Gonorrhea
- Early Lyme Disease (Erythema migrans)
- Septicemia and Meningitis caused by susceptible strains
Adults and Adolescents (≥13 years):
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 250 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
- Sinusitis: 250 mg twice daily for 10 days
- Chronic Bronchitis (Exacerbation): 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
- Skin/SSTIs & UTIs: 250–500 mg twice daily for 7–10 days
- Pneumonia: 250–500 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
- Gonorrhea: 1000 mg twice daily, single dose
- MDR Typhoid Fever: 500 mg twice daily for 10–14 days
- Early Lyme Disease: 500 mg twice daily for 20 days
Children (3 months–12 years):
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 20 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses for 5–10 days
- Otitis Media / Sinusitis / Impetigo: 30 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses for 10 days
Can be taken with or without food.

- Clavulanic Acid irreversibly binds to β-lactamase enzymes, preventing the degradation of Cefuroxime and extending its antibacterial spectrum to β-lactamase-producing strains.
- This synergistic combination ensures broad and effective coverage against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Excreted in small amounts in breast milk — caution is advised, but generally safe for breastfeeding mothers..
