Paracetamol works mainly within the central nervous system to reduce pain and fever. It increases the body's pain threshold by interfering with prostaglandin production through inhibition of cyclooxygenase pathways.
Its antipyretic effect is produced through action on the temperature-regulating center of the hypothalamus, promoting heat loss through processes such as increased blood flow to the skin and sweating.
Unlike traditional NSAIDs, paracetamol has relatively weak peripheral anti-inflammatory activity and generally does not significantly affect platelet function or cause the same degree of gastrointestinal irritation associated with many NSAIDs.
Adults and children over 12 years: Two tablets every 6–8 hours as required, with a maximum of 6 tablets within 24 hours.
Swallow extended-release tablets whole. Do not crush or chew them.
