✔️ Dosage and Administration

Take Montril 5 exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dose depends on the patient's age, condition, and treatment purpose.

Typical montelukast doses are:

• Children aged 6–14 years: 5 mg once daily for asthma or allergic rhinitis, when appropriate for the specific indication.
• Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older: Usually 10 mg once daily.
• Children aged 2–5 years: Usually 4 mg once daily, using an age-appropriate formulation when prescribed.

For asthma, montelukast is generally taken once daily in the evening. For exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, the prescribed dose is generally taken at least 2 hours before exercise. Do not take an extra dose within 24 hours, and do not take an additional dose if you already take montelukast daily.

✔️ Interaction

Montelukast has been used with several medicines commonly prescribed for asthma and allergies. However, medicines such as phenobarbital and rifampicin can reduce montelukast levels in the body. Inform your doctor about all your current medicines before starting treatment.

✔️ Contraindications:

Do not take Montril 5 if you have a known hypersensitivity to montelukast or any of the product's ingredients.

✔️ Precautions and Warnings

• Not for sudden asthma attacks: Montril 5 does not provide immediate relief from acute breathing difficulties. Keep your prescribed rescue inhaler available and use it as directed.
• Continue prescribed asthma treatment: Do not abruptly replace inhaled or oral corticosteroids with montelukast. Any reduction in corticosteroid treatment must be supervised by your doctor.
• Aspirin sensitivity: If you have asthma triggered by aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), continue avoiding these medicines as advised by your healthcare professional.
• Mental health: Tell your doctor about any history of mood or behavioural changes and report new symptoms during treatment.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using this medicine.
• Other medicines: Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you take, especially phenobarbital or rifampicin, which may reduce montelukast exposure.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Montelukast should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only after discussing the potential benefits and risks with a healthcare professional.

✔️ Overdose

Taking more than the prescribed amount may cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, headache, thirst, vomiting, drowsiness, or agitation. Seek urgent medical advice if an overdose occurs. Do not attempt to manage a significant overdose at home.

✔️ What If You Miss a Dose?

If you miss a dose, follow your prescribed schedule and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
