Axim 250 Tablet contains cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including middle ear infections, throat and tonsil infections, bacterial sinusitis, urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and certain other infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, causing the bacteria to become unstable and die.
Axim 250 Tablet is effective only against bacterial infections and does not treat viral illnesses such as the common cold or influenza. It should be used only when prescribed by a healthcare professional.
Cefuroxime, the active ingredient in Axim 250 Tablet, belongs to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics. It works by binding to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and blocking the enzymes required to form peptidoglycan, an essential component of the bacterial cell wall.
Without a properly formed cell wall, bacteria become weak and unstable and eventually rupture and die. Because human cells do not have a cell wall, cefuroxime selectively targets bacteria.
Alcohol:
There is no specific major alcohol interaction with cefuroxime. However, alcohol may worsen nausea, stomach irritation, or dizziness. It is preferable to limit or avoid alcohol while recovering from an infection.
Pregnancy:
Cefuroxime may be used during pregnancy when clearly indicated and prescribed by a doctor. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or think you may be pregnant.
Breastfeeding:
Cefuroxime passes into breast milk in small amounts. It may be used during breastfeeding when prescribed by a doctor. Consult your healthcare provider if you notice diarrhoea, thrush, or diaper rash in the breastfed infant.
Driving:
Axim 250 may cause dizziness in some patients. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or less alert.
Liver:
Consult your doctor if you have liver disease or a history of liver problems. Your doctor will determine whether this medicine is appropriate for you.
Kidney:
Cefuroxime is eliminated primarily through the kidneys. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dose adjustment, particularly when receiving higher doses or prolonged treatment.
Children:
Cefuroxime can be prescribed to children when clinically appropriate. The dose is generally determined according to the child's age, body weight, infection, and kidney function. Use in young children should be directed by a qualified physician.
Elderly:
Older adults should use Axim 250 under medical supervision, particularly if they have reduced kidney function or other medical conditions.
