Maxineb 5 may be prescribed for:

Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Heart failure in selected patients, where approved and prescribed by a physician

Nebivolol may also be used for other conditions in certain settings, depending on local prescribing guidance. Its use for preventing migraine, treating an overactive thyroid, or preventing future heart attacks and strokes should not be presented as universally approved indications without verifying the specific product information.

The dose depends on the condition being treated, age, kidney and liver function, and response to therapy.

Hypertension: The usual adult starting dose may be 5 mg once daily, as prescribed.

Heart failure: Treatment generally starts at a lower dose and is increased gradually under close medical supervision.

Older adults and patients with organ impairment: A lower starting dose or closer monitoring may be necessary.

Swallow the tablet whole with water. It may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Do not adjust the dose without medical advice.

Common side effects may include:

3. Diabetes: It can mask some warning signs of low blood sugar, particularly a rapid heartbeat. Monitor blood glucose as advised.
4. Overactive thyroid: It may mask certain symptoms, including a rapid heartbeat.
5. Liver problems: Inform your physician before starting treatment; nebivolol may be unsuitable in severe liver impairment.
6. Surgery: Tell your surgeon or anaesthetist that you take nebivolol.

3. Antiarrhythmic medicines: Some may increase the risk of heart rhythm or conduction disturbances.
4. Digoxin and other beta-blockers: May further slow the heart rate.
5. Clonidine: Changes in treatment can affect blood pressure; do not stop either medicine without medical guidance.
6. Other blood-pressure-lowering medicines: May increase the risk of low blood pressure.
