Lodicard 5/50 is a combination antihypertensive medicine containing amlodipine and atenolol. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) when combination treatment is appropriate. - Swallow the tablet whole if instructed; do not crush, chew or split it unless the product information permits this.
- Do not increase, reduce or discontinue the dose without medical advice.
- The appropriate dose depends on blood pressure, heart rate, age, kidney and liver function, and other medicines being used.
- Older adults: Blood pressure and heart rate should be monitored carefully, as some patients may be more sensitive to treatment.
- Kidney impairment: Atenolol is eliminated mainly through the kidneys, so dose adjustment may be necessary in significant renal impairment.
- Liver impairment: Use with caution and under medical supervision.
- Children: Safety and effectiveness of this combination have not been established for routine paediatric use.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only after a healthcare professional has assessed the potential benefits and risks.

- Heart conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a slow heart rate, heart block, heart failure or other significant heart disease.
- Kidney or liver impairment: Your doctor may need to adjust treatment or monitor you more closely.
- Diabetes: Atenolol may mask some warning signs of low blood glucose, particularly a fast heartbeat.
- Asthma or COPD: Atenolol may worsen breathing problems in susceptible individuals.
- Dizziness: Rise slowly from sitting or lying down. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy or drowsy.
- Potassium: Do not automatically avoid all potassium-rich foods unless your doctor advises it. Ask before using potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, particularly if you have kidney disease or take other medicines that raise potassium.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using this medicine, as treatment choices require an individualized risk-benefit assessment.
- Low blood pressure: Monitor your blood pressure as advised, especially when starting treatment or changing the dose.
- Stopping treatment: Do not stop atenolol-containing medicine suddenly. Abrupt withdrawal can worsen angina and may increase cardiovascular risk. Any reduction should be supervised and gradual.

- Severe bradycardia (abnormally slow heart rate)
- Second- or third-degree heart block without an appropriate pacemaker
- Cardiogenic shock
- Severe or uncontrolled heart failure
- Significant hypotension
- Known hypersensitivity to amlodipine, atenolol or any ingredient in the product
- Atenolol may also be unsuitable in certain severe circulation or respiratory conditions. A clinician should assess the patient's medical history before prescribing this combination.

- Tell your doctor about all medicines and supplements you use, especially:
- Other medicines for high blood pressure
- Verapamil or diltiazem, which may further slow the heart rate or impair heart conduction
- Digoxin and certain antiarrhythmic medicines, which may increase the risk of bradycardia or heart block
- Clonidine, because the order and timing of stopping or starting these medicines require careful supervision
- Catecholamine-depleting medicines, which may increase the risk of low blood pressure or a slow heart rate
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as indomethacin, which may reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect
- Insulin and other diabetes medicines, because atenolol may mask some symptoms of hypoglycaemia
- Do not start or stop any medicine without consulting your healthcare professional.
