Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole and belongs to the proton pump inhibitor class. It suppresses gastric acid secretion by blocking the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme system (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase) in stomach parietal cells. This reduces acid production and helps relieve symptoms and promote healing of acid-related damage.
After oral administration, peak blood concentrations are generally reached within approximately 1–2 hours, although this may vary with the formulation.
If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Emep. The decision to use esomeprazole should consider the expected benefit, potential risks, and available alternatives.
Intravenous esomeprazole must be prepared and administered by a healthcare professional.
Esomeprazole may interact with medicines whose absorption or metabolism is affected by stomach acidity or liver enzymes.

The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response. The following are general adult reference regimens, not instructions for self-treatment.
- Children: Use only for approved age groups and indications, with dosing determined by a healthcare professional.
- Older adults: Dose selection generally follows the usual recommendations, but individual health conditions and other medicines should be considered.
- Liver impairment: Patients with severe hepatic impairment may require dose limitations.
- Kidney impairment: Routine dose adjustment is generally not required, but treatment should still be guided by the patient's overall clinical condition.
Emep should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any ingredient in the formulation. Check the product information for additional restrictions.
Store according to the product label, generally in a dry place away from excessive heat, light, and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
