Linaglip M 500 is a combination of linagliptin and metformin used to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works alongside a healthy diet and regular physical activity to improve blood glucose control and may help lower the risk of diabetes-related complications.
The dosage is determined by your doctor based on your blood sugar levels, medical condition, kidney function, and other medicines you may be taking. Taking Linaglip M 500 with meals can help reduce stomach-related side effects. Take it regularly at the same time each day and do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.
Linagliptin: Linagliptin inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme, which normally breaks down the incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP. By prolonging incretin activity, it promotes glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, helping lower blood glucose.
Metformin: Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity in body tissues. It lowers both fasting and after-meal blood glucose and generally does not cause hypoglycemia when used alone.
Take Linaglip M 500 exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. It should generally be taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
The dosage should be individualized according to the patient's blood glucose control, current metformin dose, tolerability, kidney function, and other diabetes treatments.
For immediate-release linagliptin/metformin combinations, the usual starting dose may be 2.5 mg/500 mg twice daily in patients who are not already taking metformin. For patients already receiving metformin, the dose should be selected according to their current metformin regimen.
The total daily dose should not exceed the recommended maximum of 5 mg linagliptin and 2,000 mg metformin.
For extended-release formulations, dosing is individualized and should remain within the recommended maximum daily dose.
The safety and effectiveness of linagliptin/metformin in individuals below 18 years of age have not been established.
Kidney function should be assessed before starting treatment with metformin.
Use is generally not recommended in significant hepatic impairment because of the increased risk of metformin-associated lactic acidosis.
