Vildagliptin belongs to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class. It works by slowing the breakdown of incretin hormones, including GLP-1 and GIP, which help regulate blood glucose levels.
By increasing the activity of these hormones, vildagliptin helps the pancreas release more insulin and reduces glucagon secretion when blood glucose levels are elevated. This helps lower blood glucose levels.
