Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium is an ocular lubricant, contributing to the alleviation of the symptoms seen in moderate to severe dry eye syndromes (DES) and long-lasting protection against dryness and irritation of the affected eyes. This is a lubricating formulation similar to normal tears. The pharmacological effect of the active substance, Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium, is not receptor-mediated, but is due to its property as a viscosity enhancer, resulting in increasing the retention time of this eye drop.
