Alcaftadine blocks histamine receptors and helps prevent the release of histamine and other inflammatory substances from mast cells. This reduces itching and other symptoms associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Caftadin contains alcaftadine, an antihistamine eye drop used to prevent itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis. It helps relieve eye allergy symptoms such as:
- Eye itching
- Redness and irritation associated with allergies
- Allergic eye discomfort
- Children: Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children younger than 2 years.
- Older adults: No major differences in safety or effectiveness have been reported compared with younger adults.

- Adults and children aged 2 years and older: Instill one drop into each eye once daily, or as directed by a physician.
- Wash your hands before using the eye drops.
- Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
- Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching the eye, eyelid, or surrounding skin.
- Instill one drop, then gently close your eye.
- Apply gentle pressure to the inner corner of the eye for about one minute.
- If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between products.

There is limited information about the use of alcaftadine during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using Caftadin during these periods.
✔️ Contraindications
Caftadin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to alcaftadine or any other ingredient in the formulation.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Do not allow the dropper tip to touch your eye or any other surface, as this may contaminate the solution.
- Remove contact lenses before using the drops. Wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting them, and do not wear contact lenses if your eyes are red unless advised by your eye-care professional.
- Caftadin is intended for allergic eye itching and should not be used to treat contact lens-related irritation.
- Temporary blurred vision may occur after application. Avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision is clear.
- Stop using the drops and seek medical advice if you develop signs of an allergic reaction or significant eye irritation.
✔️ Missed Dose
Use the missed dose when you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. If it is nearly time, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not use extra drops to make up for a missed dose.
✔️ Storage Conditions
- Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture, according to the product label.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding how long the bottle may be used after opening.
