✔️ Missed Dose

If a monthly dose is missed, follow the product leaflet and the prescriber's instructions. For the 150 mg monthly regimen, if the next scheduled dose is more than seven days away, take the missed tablet the morning after remembering it. If the next dose is within seven days, skip the missed dose and take the next tablet on the scheduled date. Never take two 150 mg tablets within the same week.

Important: The dose depends on the prescribed indication and formulation. Do not change the dose or schedule without medical advice.

• Renal impairment: No dosage adjustment is generally required for mild to moderate renal impairment when creatinine clearance is at least 30 ml/min. For creatinine clearance below 30 ml/min, treatment requires an individual risk-benefit assessment and reference to the product label.
• Hepatic impairment: Dose adjustment is generally not required according to the supplied product information; consult the prescribing clinician.
• Elderly patients: Dose adjustment is generally not required solely because of age, but kidney function and other risk factors should be assessed.
• Children: Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients under 18 years of age.

✔️ Overdose

Taking too much ibandronic acid may cause indigestion, heartburn, oesophageal irritation, gastritis, or ulcers. Seek urgent medical advice if an overdose occurs. Do not induce vomiting, and remain upright because of the risk of oesophageal irritation. Follow medical advice regarding treatment.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Ibandronic acid is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult a healthcare professional if pregnancy occurs or is planned during treatment.

✔️ Safety Information:

• Correct low blood calcium and other significant mineral disturbances before starting treatment.
• Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D intake, as advised by the doctor.
• Use caution in patients with gastritis, ulcers, swallowing difficulties, or other upper gastrointestinal disorders.
• Maintain good oral hygiene and inform the dentist about bisphosphonate treatment before dental procedures. Rarely, osteonecrosis of the jaw has been reported.
• Report persistent thigh or groin pain, as atypical thigh bone fractures have rarely been associated with long-term bisphosphonate use.
• Patients with severe kidney impairment require an individual assessment before treatment.
• Follow the administration instructions carefully to reduce the risk of oesophageal irritation.

✔️ Side Effects:

• Indigestion or heartburn.
• Nausea, diarrhoea, or abdominal pain.
• Muscle, joint, or bone pain.
• Headache or dizziness.
• Irritation or inflammation of the oesophagus.

✔️ Ibandronic acid should not be used in patients with:

• Known allergy to ibandronic acid or any component of the medicine.
• Uncorrected hypocalcaemia (low blood calcium).
• Oesophageal conditions that delay emptying, such as oesophageal stricture or achalasia.
• Inability to sit or stand upright for at least 60 minutes after taking the tablet.

✔️ Drug Interactions

Medicines and supplements containing calcium, aluminium, magnesium, or iron may reduce the absorption of ibandronic acid. These should not be taken during the required 60-minute period after the tablet.

Use caution when taking ibandronic acid with:

• Calcium supplements and antacids.
• Iron or mineral supplements.
• Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which may increase gastrointestinal irritation.
• Other medicines that may irritate the oesophagus or stomach.

Inform the doctor about all medicines and supplements being taken.
