Zavegepant is a calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist. It blocks the activity of CGRP, a neuropeptide that is believed to play an important role in the development of migraine.
The precise relationship between CGRP receptor blockade and the clinical effects of zavegepant has not been fully established.
In clinical pharmacology studies, no clinically relevant differences in resting blood pressure were observed when zavegepant was administered together with subcutaneous sumatriptan compared with sumatriptan alone in healthy volunteers.
