✔️ Mechanism of Action
Cefixime disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), halting peptidoglycan formation and leading to cell death.
✔️ Drug Interactions
Probenecid: May raise cefixime blood levels
Oral anticoagulants: May increase bleeding risk via prolonged prothrombin time
✔️ Dosage & Administration
Adults: 200–400 mg daily as a single or divided dose
Children >6 months: 8 mg/kg/day in 1–2 divided doses
Typhoid fever: 15–20 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses (max 400 mg/day)
Gonorrhea: Single 400 mg dose
Renal impairment: Max 200 mg/day if CrCl <20 mL/min
May be taken with or without food. Maintain regular dosing intervals.

- Known allergy to cephalosporins
- Use with caution in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity, renal impairment, or GI disease
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
Considered safe during pregnancy based on decades of observational data. Caution in breastfeeding; no confirmed risk, but excretion in human milk is possible.

- Monitor for signs of allergic reactions or severe diarrhea
- Inform the doctor of any existing liver/kidney conditions
- Use responsibly to prevent antibiotic resistance
