✔️ Cefadyl is generally well tolerated, and most side effects are mild and self-limiting.

• Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, loose stools, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dyspepsia, vomiting, and rarely pseudomembranous colitis.
• CNS: Headache, dizziness.
• Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, urticaria, drug fever, or arthralgia—usually resolve upon discontinuation.
• Hematologic: Reversible thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, eosinophilia.
• Other: Mild, transient liver or renal enzyme elevations, genital itching, or vaginitis.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Food has minimal effect on Cefixime absorption. The usual treatment duration is 7 days, which may extend up to 14 days if necessary.

Adults & children over 10 years: 200–400 mg daily (single dose or divided doses) based on infection severity.

Elderly: Same as adults; dose adjustment may be required in severe renal impairment.

Children (6 months–10 years): 8 mg/kg/day as a single or divided dose.

6 months–1 year: 3.75 ml daily

1–4 years: 5 ml daily

5–10 years: 10 ml daily

For typhoid: 5 mg/kg twice daily for 10–14 days

Children over 50 kg or above 10 years: Adult dosage.

Children under 6 months: Safety not established.

Renal impairment:

Creatinine clearance ≥20 ml/min: Normal dose.

<20 ml/min: Do not exceed 200 mg once daily.

Dialysis patients: Same as those with severe renal impairment.

✔️ Interaction

As with other cephalosporins, prolonged prothrombin times may occur in some patients. Use caution in individuals receiving anticoagulant therapy.

✔️ Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Cefixime or any cephalosporin antibiotic.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no adequate studies in pregnant women. Cefadyl should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. It is unknown whether Cefixime is excreted in human milk, so caution is advised during lactation.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with drug allergies or penicillin hypersensitivity, due to possible cross-reactivity.
• Discontinue immediately if allergic reactions occur.
• Administer cautiously in patients with severe renal impairment.
• Broad-spectrum antibiotics can disturb gut flora, allowing Clostridium difficile overgrowth and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
• Avoid use in pregnancy or lactation unless essential.

Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of children’s reach.
