✔️ Dosage & Administration

• General Dosage: 10/10 mg to 80/20 mg daily, taken once a day, with or without food. The starting dose is typically 10/10 mg or 20/10 mg, with adjustments based on lipid levels after 2+ weeks.
• Severe LDL-C Reduction Needs (>55% decrease): Start at 40/10 mg daily.
• Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia: 40/10 mg or 80/10 mg daily, alongside other lipid-lowering treatments where available.
• Patients with Liver Impairment: Not recommended for those with active liver disease or unexplained high liver enzyme levels.
• Patients with Kidney Impairment: No dosage adjustment required, but monitoring for muscle-related side effects is advised.
• Pediatrics: Safety and effectiveness not established.
• Geriatrics: No dosage adjustment needed.

✔️ Common side effects include:

• Muscle issues (rhabdomyolysis, myopathy, myalgia)
• Liver enzyme abnormalities
• Abdominal pain

Drug Interactions:

• Increased myopathy risk when combined with fibric acid derivatives, high-dose niacin, cyclosporine, or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, HIV protease inhibitors, itraconazole).
• Cyclosporine & Gemfibrozil: Should not be used together with Atova EZ.
• Niacin & Atova EZ: Can increase the risk of muscle-related side effects.
• Warfarin Users: Monitor INR levels if taking alongside Atova EZ.
• Oral Contraceptives: May require dosage adjustments due to changes in hormone levels.
• Colchicine & Atova EZ: Caution advised due to potential muscle-related complications.

✔️ Contraindications:

• Active liver disease or unexplained high liver enzyme levels.
• Hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation.

✔️ Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:

• Pregnancy Category X: Not safe for use in pregnancy, as lipid-lowering drugs do not benefit fetal development. Should be discontinued in pregnant women.
• Lactation: Unknown if atorvastatin is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings:

• Muscle Risks: Myopathy, including rhabdomyolysis, has been linked to atorvastatin, especially when used with colchicine. Discontinue treatment if symptoms occur.
• Liver Monitoring: Liver enzyme levels should be checked before and during treatment. Discontinue if severe liver injury occurs.
• Hormonal Interactions: Use caution when combined with drugs affecting steroid hormone levels (e.g., ketoconazole, spironolactone, cimetidine).
