Laxante 5mg/5ml Oral Solution

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Administer orally, preferably at night to ensure evacuation by morning. Start with the lowest dose and adjust as needed. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose.

✔️ Oral Solution (5 mg/5 ml)

• Adults & children >10 years: 5–10 ml (1–2 tsp)/day.
• Children 4–10 years: 2.5–5 ml (½–1 tsp)/day.
• Children 1 month–4 years: 0.25 ml/kg body weight/day.

✔️ Side Effects

• Common: Dizziness, gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramps.
• Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions, syncope, nausea, vomiting.

✔️ Chronic overuse can lead to:

• Chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypokalemia, and renal issues.
• Secondary hyperaldosteronism, metabolic alkalosis, and muscle weakness due to hypokalemia.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• With diuretics/adreno-corticosteroids: May increase electrolyte imbalance if overdosed.
• With antibiotics: This may reduce the laxative efficacy of Laxante.

✔️ Do not use in cases of

• Intestinal obstruction or ileus.
• Severe acute abdominal conditions (e.g., appendicitis).
• Acute inflammatory bowel diseases.
• Severe dehydration.
• Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or other product components.

✔️ Words of Advice:

1. Combine with a fiber-rich diet (e.g., whole grains, fruits, and vegetables) for optimal bowel health.
2. Avoid use for more than a week unless prescribed to prevent dependency.
3. Take at bedtime to allow 6–8 hours for effect.
4. Maintain a 2-hour gap between Laxante and other medications to avoid absorption interference.

✔️ Use During Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Avoid during the first trimester unless necessary. Consult a physician.
• Lactation: Active components are not excreted in breast milk. However, consult a doctor before use.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Prolonged overuse may cause electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia, or dependency.
• Not recommended for those with alcoholism or at-risk populations (e.g., liver disease, epilepsy).
