✔️ Side Effects

• Generally well-tolerated at recommended doses.
• Mild gastrointestinal disturbances or rare allergic reactions may occur in sensitive individuals.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 1 capsule daily.

In more severe deficiency cases, the dose may be increased to 2 capsules daily as advised by a healthcare provider.

For optimal absorption, it is preferable to take the capsule on an empty stomach. However, it may be taken with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

✔️ Pharmacology / Mode of Action:

• Iron: An essential element in hemoglobin synthesis and effective red blood cell production. It also serves as a cofactor in key enzymes such as cytochromes involved in cellular respiration. Iron supports oxygen transport via hemoglobin and replenishes iron stores in the body.
• Folic Acid: Vital for DNA synthesis, cell division, and maintaining normal red blood cell production. It converts into its active form (tetrahydrofolic acid) in the body and is especially important during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects.
• Zinc: A cofactor in over 300 enzymatic reactions, zinc plays a role in immune function, wound healing, DNA synthesis, and cell division.

✔️ Interaction

Iron:

• Absorption may be reduced with antacids and tetracyclines.
• May interfere with penicillamine effectiveness.
• Constipation may worsen when combined with psychotropic medications.
• Caution with ACE inhibitors and parenteral iron due to increased side effects.

Folic Acid:

• Reduced absorption with antiepileptic drugs, oral contraceptives, anti-TB drugs, and alcohol.
• May lower phenytoin levels.
• Interactions also reported with methotrexate, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, and sulfonamides.

✔️ Contraindications:

• Not to be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of the active or inactive ingredients.
• Should be avoided in patients prone to iron overload conditions such as:

1. Hemochromatosis
2. Hemolytic anemia
3. Red cell aplasia

✔️ Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with existing iron storage disorders.
• Monitor for potential iron accumulation with long-term use.
• During lactation, iron, folate, and zinc are excreted in breast milk. Use under medical advice.
