✔️ Dosage & Administration

For Strongyloidiasis:

Single oral dose of 200 mcg/kg of body weight.

Stool exams may be repeated to confirm eradication.

For Onchocerciasis:

Single oral dose of 150 mcg/kg.

Re-dosing may be required every 3–12 months based on clinical response.

COVID-19 Off-label Use (not a standard indication):

Treatment: Ivermectin 6 mg × 2 tablets daily for 5 days.

Prophylaxis: Same dose on Day 1 and Day 7 based on weight.

• Children <15 kg: Safety and efficacy not established.
• Elderly (65+): Limited data; no specific adjustments unless clinically indicated.

✔️ Administration

• Take the tablet whole with water on an empty stomach.
• Avoid caffeine and drink plenty of fluids for optimal absorption.
• Always follow your physician’s instructions regarding dosage and treatment duration.

✔️ Drug Interactions

Warfarin: Rare cases of elevated INR reported; monitor coagulation parameters if co-administered.

Systemic (Oral):

Strongyloidiasis:

• Dizziness, somnolence
• GI upset: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain
• Rash, pruritus
• Fatigue
• Onchocerciasis:
• Pruritus, rash, joint pain
• Lymph node swelling/tenderness
• Eye symptoms (rarely severe): uveitis, conjunctivitis
• Fever, hypotension, asthma worsening (rare)
• Severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson Syndrome – rare)

✔️ Warnings

• Mazzotti Reaction: In patients with onchocerciasis, allergic/inflammatory reactions may occur due to parasite death, including fever, rash, hypotension, and lymphadenopathy.
• Loa loa co-infection: Risk of severe or fatal encephalopathy in heavily infected individuals.
• Avoid use in pregnancy unless necessary. Not enough studies are available to ensure safety.
• Lactation: Excreted in low levels in breast milk; use only if benefits outweigh risks.
