Naproxen reversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, reducing the formation of prostaglandin precursors. This action produces anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. Additionally, it can inhibit platelet aggregation.
