✔️ Pharmacology:

• Albendazole, the active ingredient in Triben DS, is a wide-range anthelmintic.
• It exhibits vermicidal, ovicidal, and larvicidal activities.
• Albendazole blocks glucose uptake in vulnerable helminths, leading to energy depletion and eventual immobilization and death.
• It inhibits parasite tubulin polymerization, contributing to its anthelmintic effect.
• Albendazole is metabolized in the liver, poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and excreted in urine.

✔️ Dosage and Administration of Triben DS:

For Adults & Children over 2 years:

• 400 mg (1 tablet or 10 ml suspension) as a single dose for various infections.
• For strongyloidiasis or taeniasis, 400 mg (1 tablet or 10 ml suspension) daily for 3 consecutive days. For Children of 1-2 years:
• The recommended dose is a single dosage of 200 mg (5 ml suspension). For Children below 1 year:
• Not recommended. For Hydatid disease (Echinococcosis):
• Albendazole dosage varies based on body weight and the type of echinococcosis.
• Cycles of treatment are repeated after specific intervals.

✔️ Interaction of Triben DS:

• No interactions involving Albendazole, either pharmacodynamic or pharmacokinetic, have been reported.

✔️ Contraindications:

• Neonates: Not commonly used.
• Children: Dose reduction may be indicated in children weighing less than 10 kg.
• Pregnant women: Avoid during pregnancy.
• Concurrent infection: No evidence to suggest dosage adjustment in renal, hepatic, or cardiac failure.

✔️ Side Effects of Triben DS:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, changes in liver enzymes, reversible alopecia (rare), rash, fever, blood disorders including leucopenia and pancytopenia.
• Allergic reactions, including anaphylactic shock in case of cyst rupture.
• Shaking and meningism in cerebral disease.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

• US FDA Pregnancy category of Albendazole is C.
• Albendazole should be avoided in pregnancy and lactation unless potential benefits outweigh possible risks to the fetus.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings:

• Blood checks and liver function tests before treatment and twice during each cycle.
• Caution in breastfeeding.
• Exclude pregnancy before starting treatment.
• Use in Echinococcosis under constant medical supervision with regular monitoring of liver function and blood counts.
