Teconin 200 IM/IV Injection

Bacterial Infection

✔️ Generic:

✔️ Common Side Effects:

• Injection site reactions: Pain, redness, swelling
• Fever
• Itching or skin rash
• Headache or dizziness

Rare but Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis (potentially fatal)
• Kidney or liver impairment
• Ototoxicity (hearing damage)
• "Red-man" syndrome (a rare allergic reaction)

✔️ Adult Doses: Severe Gram-positive infections:

• Initial dose: 6 mg/kg on day one, followed by 3 mg/kg/day.
• Severe cases: 6 mg/kg every 12 hours for the first three doses, then 6 mg/kg/day.
• Routes: IM injection, IV bolus, or 30-minute IV infusion.

✔️ Adult Doses: Prophylaxis for Gram-positive infections (surgery):

• Single dose of 400 mg at the time of anesthesia induction.

✔️ Adult Doses: CAPD-associated peritonitis:

• If febrile, administer a 400 mg loading dose. Add Teconin to the dialysis solution at 20 mg/L for the first week, alternate bags in the second week, and the overnight dwell bag in the third week.

✔️ Renal Impairment Adjustments:

• CrCl 40–60 ml/min: Half the usual dose or administer the full dose every two days.
• CrCl <40 ml/min: One-third of the usual dose or administer the full dose every three days.

✔️ Pediatric Doses: Teicoplanin

1. Severe Gram-positive infections:
   • Children: 10 mg/kg every 12 hours for three doses, followed by 6–10 mg/kg/day based on severity.
   • Neonates: 16 mg/kg on the first day, then 8 mg/kg/day via IV infusion.

✔️ Administration: Teicoplanin

Teconin 200 is administered as an injection or infusion under medical supervision. Do not self-administer.

✔️ Drug Interactions: Teicoplanin

Teconin 200 should be used cautiously with:

• Nephrotoxic drugs (e.g., aminoglycosides, amphotericin B, furosemide)
• Neurotoxic drugs

✔️ Contraindications

Teicoplanin is contraindicated in patients with known Hypersensitivity to the drug.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B3. Teicoplanin should not be used during confirmed or presumed pregnancy or during lactation unless the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks.

✔️ Precautions:

• Use cautiously in patients with preexisting kidney conditions or hypersensitivity to Vancomycin.
• Regular monitoring of kidney, and liver function, and blood tests is recommended.
• Avoid in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to Teicoplanin.

✔️ Storage Instructions:

• Store in a cool, dry place at ≤30°C, away from light.
• Reconstituted solutions must be used immediately or stored under refrigeration (2–8°C) for up to 24 hours.
