Linezolid is a synthetic oxazolidinone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S portion of the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing formation of the 70S initiation complex.

✔️ Drug Interactions
Serotonin Syndrome Risk: Avoid with SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclics, buspirone, meperidine, triptans
Blood Pressure Effects: Caution with vasopressors, dopaminergic agents
Tyramine-containing foods: Avoid aged cheese, fermented products, soy sauce, etc.

- Known hypersensitivity to Linezolid
- Concurrent or recent use (within 2 weeks) of MAO inhibitors
- Patients with uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, carcinoid syndrome
- Use with serotonergic or adrenergic agents (e.g., SSRIs, tricyclics, triptans, pseudoephedrine)
✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Limited data; use only if benefits outweigh risks
- Lactation: Present in breast milk; monitor infant for vomiting, diarrhea
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor blood counts weekly, especially if used >2 weeks or in patients with myelosuppression
- Visual disturbances: Prompt ophthalmologic exam if visual symptoms arise
- Not recommended for catheter-related bloodstream infections
- Risk of C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) up to 2 months post-treatment
- Monitor for lactic acidosis, unexplained vomiting, or metabolic issues
- Use with caution in diabetics due to risk of hypoglycemia
