✅ Description:
Mupirocin is a naturally occurring topical antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Pseudomonas fluorescens. It exhibits strong antibacterial activity against a wide spectrum of pathogens commonly responsible for skin infections, including Staphylococcus aureus (both methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant strains), Streptococcus pyogenes, and certain Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenzae.
The drug acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through reversible and specific binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase. This unique mechanism minimizes the risk of cross-resistance with other classes of antibiotics. Mupirocin demonstrates bactericidal activity at topical concentrations, although its minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) is typically 8–30 times higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC).

✔️ Dosage & Administration
Apply a small amount of Bacron Ointment to the affected area three times daily for up to 10 days, or as directed by a physician.
Pediatric Use:
Safety and efficacy have been established in children aged 2 months to 16 years, based on well-controlled clinical studies in pediatric impetigo.

No clinically significant drug interactions have been reported with Bacron Ointment.
✔️ Contraindications
Bacron Ointment is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Mupirocin or any component of the formulation.
✔️ Side Effects
Adverse reactions are generally mild and localized, including:
- Burning, stinging, or pain at the application site
- Itching, rash, erythema, or dry skin
- Swelling, tenderness, or contact dermatitis
- Rarely, nausea or increased exudation
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
Animal studies have shown no evidence of fetal harm. However, due to limited clinical experience in pregnant women, Mupirocin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the possible risk.
It is unknown whether Mupirocin is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution is advised when used by nursing mothers.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
- Do not use intranasally or in conjunction with cannulae at central venous catheter sites.
- Prolonged use may lead to the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
- If severe irritation or hypersensitivity occurs, discontinue use and initiate appropriate alternative therapy.
- Mixing Bacron with other topical agents may reduce its antibacterial efficacy and stability.
