✅ Description:
Amotid is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible β-lactamase-negative microorganisms, including:
- ENT infections: Otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis
- Respiratory infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis (acute/chronic), lung abscess, empyema, bronchiectasis
- Skin and soft tissue infections: Cellulitis, carbuncles, abscesses, infected wounds
- Genitourinary infections: Pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis
- Venereal disease: Acute uncomplicated gonorrhea
- Dental infections: Short-term therapy for dental abscess
- H. pylori-related duodenal ulcer: Used in combination with clarithromycin and lansoprazole (triple therapy) to treat H. pylori infection and prevent ulcer recurrence.

✔️ Side Effects
Generally mild and short-lived, including diarrhea, indigestion, or rash. Rarely, pseudomembranous colitis may occur.
✔️ Dosage & Administration
Adults:
250 mg three times daily; may increase to 500 mg three times daily for severe infections.
Severe respiratory infections: 3 g every 12 hours
Otitis media: 1 g three times daily
Pneumonia: 500–1000 mg three times daily
Dental abscess or UTI: 3 g, repeated after 10–12 hours
Gonorrhea: Single 2–3 g dose with 1 g Probenecid
Children (≤10 years):
125 mg three times daily; increase to 250 mg for severe infections.
Otitis media: 40 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses (max 3 g/day)
Renal impairment: Dose adjustment may be required.
Administration Tip: Reconstituted suspension may be mixed with milk, fruit juice, or water and taken immediately.
✔️ Drug Interactions
Probenecid: Increases and prolongs amoxicillin blood levels.
Oral contraceptives: May reduce effectiveness due to altered gut flora and decreased estrogen reabsorption.
✔️ Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin or any penicillin.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Category B – use only if clearly needed.
Lactation: Excreted in breast milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
Monitor for possible superinfections (bacterial or fungal) during therapy. Discontinue treatment and initiate suitable therapy if superinfection develops.
✔️ Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place (below 30°C), protected from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
