A Flox 500 is an antibiotic. It kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their own protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.

• Targeting Penicillin-Binding Proteins (PBPs): The medication binds to PBPs in the bacterial cell wall, preventing the final cross-linking step in peptidoglycan formation. Without this link, the bacterial cell wall weakens, leading to bacterial swelling and rupture.
• Resistance to Penicillinase: Thanks to its acyl side chain, flucloxacillin is resistant to being broken down by penicillinase, giving it an edge against penicillin-resistant staphylococcal infections.

• For Osteomyelitis: Up to 8 g/day, divided into 3-4 doses.
• For Endocarditis:
  • For patients under 85 kg: Up to 8 g/day divided into 4 doses.
  • For patients over 85 kg: Up to 12 g/day divided into 6 doses.

Pediatric Dosage

• Children: 12.5-25 mg/kg of body weight, given 4 times a day.
  • Ages 2-10 years: Half of the adult dose.
  • Under 2 years: One-fourth of the adult dose.

Renal Impairment Dosage Adjustment

• For Patients with Severe Renal Impairment (CrCl <10 ml/min): Dose adjustment is required, as directed by a healthcare professional.
