Olmesartan + Amlodipine is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents used to control high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension is a long-term condition where the force of blood against the artery walls remains high, which increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, and irregular heartbeat.
This medicine combines:
- Olmesartan – an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II (a hormone that narrows blood vessels) from acting, allowing blood vessels to relax and blood to flow more smoothly.
- Amlodipine – a calcium channel blocker (CCB) that relaxes and widens blood vessels by preventing calcium entry into vascular smooth muscles, reducing strain on the heart.
Together, these actions lower blood pressure, improve heart efficiency, and reduce the chances of cardiovascular complications like heart attack and stroke.
