✔️ How does Revocon 12.5mg Tablet work?

Tetrabenazine works by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals in the body that cause abnormal movements.

✔️ Side Effects of Revocon 12.5mg Tablet

Common side effects of Tetrabenazine include depression, suicidality, akathisia, restlessness, agitation, dysphagia, parkinsonism, somnolence, and sedation.

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• You have been prescribed Revocon 25 to help control movement disorders such as Huntington’s disease.
• Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as Revocon 25 can cause dizziness and sleepiness.
• Inform your doctor if you experience symptoms such as high fever, sweating, muscle stiffness, and faster breathing. These may be due to a rare side effect known as the neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
• Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior.
• Do not stop taking Revocon 25 without talking to your doctor first as it may cause worsening of symptoms.

✔️ Indication of Revocon 12.5mg Tablet

• Tetrabenazine is used to treat chorea associated with Huntington's disease.

✔️ Pharmacology

• Tetrabenazine works by depleting reserves of monoamine neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the basal ganglia. This helps control hyperkinetic movements associated with chorea.
• At dosages of 50 mg, Tetrabenazine may prolong the QTc interval.
• Tetrabenazine or its metabolites may bind to melanin-containing tissues in rats, such as the eyes and skin.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Revocon 12.5mg Tablet

• The chronic daily dose of Tetrabenazine is determined individually for each patient.
• Tetrabenazine therapy should be titrated slowly over several weeks to identify a dose that reduces chorea and is tolerated.
• The maximum recommended daily dose is 100 mg, and the maximum recommended single dose is 37.5 mg.

✔️ Interaction

• Tetrabenazine should not be taken with MAOI medication or within 14 days of stopping it.
• It may reduce the effects of levodopa and worsen parkinsonism.
• There is a higher chance of extrapyramidal adverse effects when Tetrabenazine is taken with amantadine, metoclopramide, or antipsychotics.

✔️ Contraindications:

• Tetrabenazine is not recommended for patients who are actively suicidal or have untreated or inadequately treated depression.
• It should not be used in conjunction with MAOIs or within 14 days after stopping MAOI therapy.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Tetrabenazine is classified as Pregnancy Category C. It should only be taken during pregnancy if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus.
• Tetrabenazine or its metabolites are not known to be excreted in human milk, but a decision should be made whether to stop breastfeeding or stop taking Tetrabenazine, considering the drug's importance to the mother.
